Theresa Bruns is the first recipient of the Nancy Clay Bryant Mission scholarship, totaling $10,000. Bruns spent time in foster care after her grandmother could no longer care for her and as well as her siblings. As a young mother, Bruns doubted if she’d be able to graduate college, particularly without much support, but she pressed on and began studying child development. She has been a social service worker for nearly four years and is currently pursuing a master of social work at the University of Kentucky. She is set to graduate in December 2025. The Mission of the Nancy Clay Bryant Foundation is to support social workers and provide them with self-care and resources. Pictured, from left, are: Tiffany Taul-Scruggs, Sterling Health Care; Malcom Bryant, founder of the Nancy Clay Bryant Mission; Jaiden McKenzie, mission director; Theresa Bruns, scholarship recipient; Michelle Ballard, associate pastor at First Christian Church; Scott Holley, senior pastor at First Christian Church; and Kaye Templin, retired CEO at Gateway Children’s Services.
